When I was a kid I had definitive knowing about certain things.
I started travelling young.
When I was 15 I went to New York alone for three months to stay with family.
I was terrified. I’d never travelled on my own before, but I knew I had to do this.
At the weekends I’d go into the city (on my own at 15!) kick around the stores, have coffee, chat to strangers, hang out in Washington Square Park.
That feeling of shaking off the small city vibes, knowing I was meant for HUGE things in life, understanding how important It was to just be yourself…. I got ALL of this and more from scaring the crap out of myself and doing it anyway.
Still today, I call on this experience as a kid when I’m faced with big decisions and upper limiting fears.
I remember my mantra when I was that small city teenager from Ireland in New York city...
“If I’m not scared, I’m not changing. If I’m not changing, I’m standing still.”
Standing still is a beautiful thing, for a while that is.
You draw your strength from the stillness. Stillness is like winter.
But after winter has passed, it’s time to stretch and grow.
If you’re in doubt as to your next right move, leap, investment or even vacation...do the thing that scares you the most.
I promise that everything you desire, is on the other side of that fear.
Remember in the end, only Love is real.
